Contrary to what some would have us believe, the Philippines’ precolonial past wasn’t that progressive at all. There’s nothing progressive about slavery, arranged/fixed marriages – sometimes involving minors, not to mention non-consensual sexual acts. For more on this, please refer to the linked article.
